Wires, Walls & a Fresh Start: Giving This Apartment a Proper Power Upgrade

A full rewire on the Isle of Wight, featuring a modern consumer unit, RCBO protection on every circuit, and built-in surge protection for peace of mind.

From Tired Wiring to Modern Living

Every property tells a story—and this Isle of Wight apartment was ready for a new chapter.

Behind the walls sat an ageing electrical system that no longer met modern expectations. Limited protection, dated components, and signs of wear made it clear: this wasn’t just an upgrade job—it was a full rewire.

As part of a wider refurbishment, we were brought in to completely overhaul the electrical installation from the ground up.

What We Found

The initial setup showed all the hallmarks of an older installation:

  • Outdated fuse gear
  • Limited circuit protection
  • Signs of previous alterations
  • Poor cable management

This is exactly the kind of setup that can quietly become a safety risk over time—especially in properties undergoing renovation.

The Upgrade: A Modern Consumer Unit Installation

We installed a brand-new consumer unit, bringing the property fully in line with current UK standards (BS 7671).

Key features of the new installation:

  • Individual RCBO protection on every circuit
Each circuit now has its own protection—meaning a fault won’t take down the entire property.
  • Integrated surge protection device (SPD)
Protects sensitive electronics from voltage spikes—an increasingly important addition in modern homes.
  • Upgraded tails and connections
Ensuring a safe, reliable supply from the outset.
  • Clearly labelled circuits
Making future maintenance and fault finding straightforward.

Why This Matters for Homeowners

A full rewire isn’t just about compliance—it’s about confidence.

With this upgrade, the property now benefits from:

  • Improved electrical safety
  • Reduced risk of nuisance tripping
  • Protection for modern appliances and electronics
  • A future-proofed system ready for additional upgrades

For landlords, homeowners, and developers alike, this kind of work adds both value and peace of mind.

Working as Part of a Bigger Project

This project also highlights something we pride ourselves on at Jeelek—working seamlessly alongside other trades.

It’s all part of delivering a smooth, well-managed project from start to finish.
